Study Skill Workshops
In this series of workshops over 30-32 hours, students in grade seven and above learn and practice study strategies, organizational skills and time management. This workshop, adopted from HOPS (Homework, Organization and Planning Skills), an evidence-based program in the US, is grounded within the cultural context of Pune schools.
Parent Education Workshops
Parents play a vital role in supporting their children. In our workshops, experienced Resource Teachers present theory and case studies and demonstrate specific skills and strategies parents can use to employ the child’s identified strengths and to compensate for weaknesses. Parent participation in group discussions and role-play helps them to understand their children’s learning problems (in handwriting, spelling, reading, and math) and learn strategies and skills to support their learning.
Parent Support Group
Parents of children with SLDs and ADHD meet every other month in a supportive environment to share concerns, discuss strategies, and celebrate successes. Resource Teachers share their expertise and offer information about the government's statutory regulations on accommodating children with SLDs.
Teacher Education Workshop
In this three hour workshop, school teachers learn to support students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs) by using simple strategies. In addition to theory, teachers are presented with case studies and demonstrations of specific skills and strategies they can use to build on the child’s identified strengths and to compensate for weaknesses.
In this one hour presentation, educators, parents, health professionals, social service organizations, government institutions, and NGOs gain a preliminary understanding of Specific Learning Disabilities, ADHD and other concurrent conditions. They will understand the need for early identification through a psycho-educational assessment and for giving children the help they need through appropriate, evidence-based intervention. They will also learn about school boards' accommodations for students with Specific Learning Disabilities and how they can advocate for policies to address their needs.
