Guidelines for schools for students with Learning Disabilities
Class I to IX- Rule Book
- Question papers be read to LD students by the invigilators
- Students with specific learning difficulties be exempted from language subjects, except English
- Students be exempted from drawing graphs, diagrams, charts, figures and maps
- Twenty grace marks be allotted
- While correcting papers of students with Dyscalculia, number reversals and confusion with signs be overlooked by teachers
- Students of V and VI will study V std. Math
- Students of VII and VIII will study VI std. Math
- Students of IX and X will study VII std. Math
- Teachers are suggested to focus on the steps taken to arrive at the answer rather than on the final answer only.
- Students should not be penalized for spelling errors and should be exempt from cursive writing
Guidelines for Class X and XII Exams
- 1 hour or 25% extra time be allotted to complete the exam
- Student be permitted to type answers
- Student be permitted to use writer for the entire or part of the exam
- Writer be provided in consultation with the Head of school
- Teacher be permitted to explain question paper in the exam hall
- Student may take only one language exam
- Vocational courses be recognized
- Student be exempt from graphic presentations
- Grace marks be increased from 10 to 15
- Student may use calculator for Class XII exam
- Separate seating may be provided
- Student may go to the exam centre nearest his home
Students with learning disabilities or Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and/or Dyscalculia may be provided with such of the following facilities/concessions as are:-
- 25% additional time for each written examination over and above that normally allotted.
- In addition to each written examination, also have oral tests taken by teachers of the relevant subjects. On the basis of average marks of the combined written and oral examinations, on which promotion to higher standards is determined.
- To take help of a writer.
- Teacher/invigilators to read the question paper to the concerned candidates in the examination hall, but should not explain it to them.
- Exempted from language subject other than English for example- Hindi or any regional language.
- The teacher must over look number reversal and errors in mathematical symbols confusion such as + and x or - and ÷ symbols.
- Students with learning disabilities shall be pardoned and exempted from:
- Spelling errors and the content of the answer should be evaluated rather than the syntax/ structure of the written language or the spellings.
- Errors in mathematical calculations arising but of writing numbers in the wrong order (example 10/01) and emphasis should be laid and marks be awarded for the method employed by such students.
- Cursive writing should not be enforced; permit to continue writing in print.
- To write answers in point form.
- Use of calculators for solving mathematical problems.
- Students shall be exempted from drawing figures, diagrams, charts, maps and graphs in written examinations.
Supplementary questions may be formulated specially for such students.
- The 20 grace marks can be given in one subject or may be divided in one or more subjects.
